Subaru Impreza WRX STI GR, 3 generation 10.2007 - 06.2010

3 generation
(GR) 10.2007 - 06.2010
CBA-GRB, CBA-GRF
3 generation
Hatchback
Sedan
The third generation of the tuning version of the five-door Impreza differs from its predecessor in lighter weight, wider body, shorter rear overhang and a lower engine position. The body is equipped with various aerodynamic elements for the least resistance to movement, in particular, there is a large spoiler on the roof. Among other things, in the new generation of Impreza WRX STI, the wings were additionally "inflated" in order to also improve air resistance, and the wide air intake on the hood leaves no doubt about the power of the boxer engine hidden under it. In the new generation, the car received a slightly lengthened wheelbase. The standard equipment includes an all-wheel drive system and a controlled center differential (DCCD). In the Russian market, the Impreza WRX STI hatchback was available with a 2.5-liter power unit with 300 hp.
The Impreza WRX STI has a traditionally striking design, especially in terms of sporting details - in addition to the original aggressive body kit, the car received 18-inch aluminum rims with 245 / 40R18 wheels (gold or dark gray). And in the cabin there are Recaro bucket seats, a leather sports multifunction steering wheel, aluminum pedals, bright red lighting. The steering column is adjustable in height and reach. The interior design is diluted with titanium-like inserts on the dashboard and door trims. All controls are tightly assembled next to the driver, including the handbrake lever. Available equipment includes full power accessories, rear wiper, heated washer nozzles, heated front seats, keyless entry and start system, air conditioning with climate control and cabin filter, premium audio system with USB and 6-disc changer, but some WRX STI trims are available to keep weight down. offered only the most essential equipment. Subaru WRX STI is equipped with a forced turbocharged engine. From the previous generation, the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder EJ257 boxer unit with 16-valve DOHC and AVCS has been redesigned to optimize power, torque and economy. In the specification for the Russian market, it develops a maximum 300 horsepower (at 6000 rpm), thrust reaches 407 Newton meters at 4000 rpm. To accelerate from standstill to 100 km / h, a car with a 6-speed manual gearbox takes only 5.2 seconds, and with an automatic one - 6 seconds. The sportiest Impreza features a rigidly tuned suspension, reinforced springs, anti-roll bars, and reduced ground clearance. And also other characteristics of shock absorbers, silent blocks of the rear suspension subframe, articulated joints of the front MacPherson levers and an increased diameter of the exhaust pipes. A car with a manual gearbox is equipped with DCCD - Driver Control Central Differential - a differential, which automatically, depending on road conditions, can change the degree of blocking. The same can be done in manual mode. Models with “automatic” use an asymmetric differential, locked by an electronically controlled hydraulic clutch. As for the dimensions, the third Impreza has a base of 2620 mm, which is significantly larger than that of its predecessor (2525 mm), and gives an advantage in the form of a more comfortable cabin. Measures have also been taken for acoustic comfort: noise and vibration reduction.

As standard, the Impreza WRX STI has six airbags, sports ABS, cruise control, VDC dynamic stabilization, and hill start assist. The current generation Impreza has received high ratings in crash tests conducted according to fairly strict rules.

The third-generation Impreza itself has many advantages. The car has improved in terms of safety, comfort and equipment. It has become a little more spacious. The extreme model WRX STI "clings" with its appearance, dynamics, handling. The disadvantages are the rustic interior, high fuel consumption, and the cost of maintenance.
The 2010 Impreza WRX STi is a four-door body and automatic, which have officially become available on the Russian market. Comprehensively from the car of the previous specification, this Impreza differs in stiffer springs, anti-roll bars that have become 1 mm thicker, and lower ground clearance. And also the characteristics of shock absorbers, silent blocks of the rear suspension subframe, articulated joints of the front McPherson arms and an increased diameter of the exhaust pipes.
But what is more specific is the difference between Impreza with "mechanics" and "automatic". In the latter case, the stabilization system is not completely disabled in the sedan. On a car with a manual gearbox, there is a DCCD - Driver Control Central Differential - a differential, which automatically, depending on road conditions, can change the degree of blocking. The same can be done in manual mode. As part of the automatic transmission, there is only an asymmetrical differential locked by an electronically controlled hydraulic clutch. And the distribution of the moment along the axes is different - 39:61 on the Impreza with "mechanics" and 45:55 with "automatic". In addition, in "automatic" sedans, the rear differential is blocked by a viscous coupling instead of Torsen, and the front differential is completely free (with a manual gearbox of increased friction). In general, even being 300-horsepower, the Impreza with automatic transmission is a "civilian" rather than "combat" car.
