In October 2007, as part of the third generation Impreza, a new version of the WRX STI in the hatchback body was released, and in 2010, during the modernization of the series, a 4-door modification of the car was released. The Subaru Impreza has an amazing technical variety. And above all, a rich offer of engines. If the usual modifications of the Impreza use engines of relatively modest power, then in equipping the "hot" versions the manufacturer is constrained only by the scope of choosing a place under the hood. There is practically no limit to perfection, which is shown by the most desirable turbo modifications for drive fans. They have become practically a model for achieving the characteristics inherent in a sports car, and, in addition, they have excellent aerodynamics.
Initially, the car was offered in the "WRX STI" and "WRX STI A-Line" trim levels, and in the latter case, the letter "A" is an abbreviation for the English word "Authentic", that is, true, genuine. Externally, the car is distinguished by a very stylish design, which makes a very serious, masculine impression with a frankly pronounced relief of the wings, bumpers, a hood with a large air intake and a trunk with a powerful spoiler. The fact that the car belongs to the luxury class can be fully felt at the highest level of quality and equipment - these are Recaro sports bucket seats, electric drive and heated front seats, 18-inch aluminum rims, xenon and fog lights, engine start with a button, electric sunroof on the roof, the presence of the SI-Drive (Subaru Intelligent Drive) system, which allows you to control driving modes; navigation system with HDD, climate control. The luxurious interior is complemented by decorative elements that imitate metal, leather and Alcantara upholstery.

The most interesting, of course, deserve the power units of the traditional Subaru horizontally opposed design. Initially, a 2-liter engine with a capacity of 308 hp was installed on the car. from. and a 2.5-liter with 300 hp. The first is completed exclusively with "mechanics", as has always been customary for the WRX STI, but the 2.5-liter power unit comes with an automatic transmission. We can say that in this capacity, the manufacturer made a kind of gift to women, offering them a more accessible option in communication, albeit a little less powerful. However, this version is interesting to everyone who does not have the skill of communicating with a manual transmission or simply does not want to bother with the "mechanics". In any case, this decision only expanded the boundaries of the Impreza's competitiveness. Later, another two-liter version of the engine was added to the factory program, already with a capacity of 320 liters. from.

It is clear that a sports car should have an optimized chassis. And there is. The Impreza's suspension (MacPherson strut front and rear double wishbone suspension) has been extensively redesigned. The stiffness of the springs and shock absorbers was changed, other silent blocks were installed, new aluminum lower arms at the front, underbody protection was installed at the bottom, simultaneously reducing aerodynamic losses. The car is equipped with a proprietary VTD-AWD all-wheel drive system (all-wheel drive + torque distribution along the axles). In the A-line series, the 5-speed automatic transmission has the option of manual operation - either with a selector or using the steering column switches. Safety systems Subaru Impreza WRX STI include front airbags (driver and passenger), side airbags and curtain airbags. The car is equipped with child seat mountings, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control and traction control. The Subaru WRX sports car has been praised in a series of crash tests conducted by the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Subaru Impreza WRX STI with its power is capable of causing an adrenaline rush, especially the version on "mechanics". The modification with "automatic" is more adapted to typical city driving with congestion, traffic jams and traffic lights. However, both versions with right-hand drive cannot be classified as widely available on the market. Prices for fresh, but used cars are also not encouraging, however, they are fully justified for the right to own one of the best sports cars.
With its low center of gravity, the Impreza WRX STI delivers outstanding stability, balance and traction on all wheels through a combination of Symmetrical AWD and a turbocharged 16-valve SUBARU BOXER DOHC 2.5-liter turbocharged system. Under normal conditions, torque is split between the front and rear wheels at a ratio of 41:59. However, this proportion can be changed by the center differential, which is electronically controlled by signals from acceleration sensors, steering wheel position, and engine speed. In addition, the driver can forcibly shift the balance towards the front or rear axle. The torque between the rear wheels is distributed by a mechanical Torsen differential. A helicoidal type differential is installed at the front, which has a softer character. The upgraded 2.5-liter turbocharged engine was added 20 forces compared to its predecessor. On the camshafts of the intake and exhaust valves, mechanisms are installed that change the valve timing, the dimensions of the radiator for charge air are increased. By reducing the rpm of the maximum torque, the engine was made more elastic. At 7,000 rpm. the electronic limiter is triggered - a moment earlier the red light on the dashboard flashes.

The third generation STI is now easier to drive. The SI-Drive system (also used on the Legacy) allows the driver to change the rigidity of the "binding" of the engine to the gas pedal in one direction or another, thereby sharpening the reactions, or vice versa, softening them. You can quickly change the operating mode of the central differential: on a slippery section of the road, for better realization of the moment on the wheels, one movement of the toggle switch (located near the gearbox lever) turns on the rigid connection between the axles, and on dry asphalt, you can easily cancel the lock. The middle position of the toggle switch corresponds to automatic mode. In this case, the DCCD system uses signals from sensors that analyze the driving conditions to determine when and how much to lock the differential. The degree of intervention of the switched off VDC stabilization system is also amenable to adjustment for specific conditions - the desired mode is selected by a series of button presses.
