Sedan
The second generation Legacy, like the first, has a size 5 body. This model retained the concept of its predecessor and did not succumb to the trend of increasing the body to size 3, which at that time covered almost all Japanese mid-range cars. The body of the Legacy has an "elongated", "box-shaped" appearance, the design of the exterior is in no way inferior to European cars. This generation is largely up to date and still has luxury and beautiful exterior design and excellent all-wheel drive sports car capabilities. In the domestic market, in this generation, the Legacy sedan could not catch up with the Legacy Wagon in terms of sales, but, nevertheless, served as the basis for the creation of the first-class Legacy B4 sedan, presented by the next generation. An even greater variety of trim levels and modifications has become a distinctive feature of the generation. Unlike the previous series, in the domestic market, front-wheel drive modifications were now offered not only for the sedan, but also for the station wagon. However, the GT modification remained the sales leader, offering a sporty style and corresponding technical stuffing: a powerful turbocharged engine combined with a sports suspension, ventilated disc brakes on all wheels, etc. In the interior: black sports steering wheel with leather braiding, seats with excellent lateral support, optional leather interior, electric heated front seats, cruise control, electric sunroof, fog lights.

The base engines were originally two-liter horizontally opposed engines: 125-horsepower SOHC and 150-horsepower DOHC. Soon, the 1.8-liter SOHC engine with 115 hp returned to the engine range. Since 1996, its power has been raised to 120 hp, then the two-liter ones were replaced by their modernized versions with a capacity of 135 and 155 hp. But, of course, as already mentioned, the Legacy GT with a turbocharged DOHC engine became a kind of leader of this generation. Thanks to the horizontally opposed arrangement of the cylinders and two turbines, at the very beginning of its production, this modification developed a capacity of 250 "horses". And in the GT-B configuration, which began to be produced in 1996, for the first time among 2-liter Japanese-made cars, a capacity of 280 hp was developed. from. In addition, other 2.2 and 2.5 liter engines were installed on the Legacy, adding additional variety to the model range.

The second generation Legacy suspension is independent - on shock-absorber struts with coil springs. Selected modifications, equipped with turbo engines and an improved Bilstein suspension, specially designed for Subaru's rally competition, have excellent handling and stability, impeccable driving characteristics - all thanks to a combination of high power and suspension characteristics. Most modifications use the 4WD FULLTIME system. In addition, many vehicles were equipped with air suspension, limited slip differentials, and speed-sensitive power steering.

In the second generation, much more attention was paid to safety. For example, the basic version "2.0 TX" of the 1993 model was standardly equipped with three-point seat belts, a child seat locking mechanism, however, ABS (anti-lock braking system) and a driver's airbag were still offered as options. But after the 1996 restyling, the specified equipment became standard, in turn, an "airbag" for the front passenger was optionally added, and in the upper trim levels - side airbags. The second generation Legacy embodies the best of its time, offering an incredible variety of designs, from inexpensive to luxurious, including numerous special editions featuring enhanced equipment. This series became one of the legendary cars of the 90s, which are famous for reliable and unpretentious representatives of the Japanese car industry, and today are still able to demonstrate a good technical condition. As in their homeland, the Legacy Wagon attracts stable interest, and mostly all-wheel drive versions: bad roads have not been canceled, and a large capacity is the best quality for a “weekend car”.
