Wagon
The third generation Subaru Outback has been restyled with minor changes, as usual, affecting some exterior elements, including optics. The interior has also undergone minor adjustments. The most interesting offer for the European buyer was the appearance of a 150-horsepower diesel version - the Subaru Legacy and Outback models became the world's first cars with a boxer diesel engine. Their official premiere took place at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2008. Petrol models, as before, are represented by atmospheric units of 2.5 liters (165 hp or 173 hp since 2007) and six-cylinder 3.0 liters (245 hp).
The updated Subaru Outback has a new dashboard, the steering column is now adjustable not only in tilt, but also in reach. The SI-Drive system has been added to the list of options, which allows the driver to choose one of three driving modes: intelligent (economical), sporty and sporty ("Sport Sharp") for maximum performance. The new system is available for top-end 3.0-liter models. Outback's standard European specification includes 17-inch wheels, roof rails, fabric seats, air conditioning, heated front seats, central locking with remote control, power windows, climate control, CD-receiver, on-board computer. In options: bi-xenon, leather steering wheel, power driver's seat, sunroof. Top performance - leather upholstery, electric front seats, DVD system and navigation with a 7-inch display, driving mode switch, keyless entry.

Created specifically for the European market, the newest modification of the Subaru Outback 2.0D received a turbo diesel boxer unit with common-rail technology, which is built on the basis of the familiar 1998 cc Subaru Boxer H4 engine, a horizontally opposed 4-cylinder DOHC turbocharged. For the engine to run on heavy fuel, the bore was reduced by 6 mm, the piston stroke was increased by 11 mm, and the crankshaft length was reduced by 35.3 cm, which is 6.1 cm shorter than that of a gasoline engine. The block and head are made of aluminum to reduce weight. In order to provide a faster exit to the operating temperature regime, the turbine is located under the engine and connected to the catalyst. With a power of 150 horsepower (at 3800 rpm), the EE20Z diesel engine delivers a maximum torque of 350 Nm (at 1800 rpm), which exceeds the average for diesel versions of the same volume. As a result, the diesel Outback, equipped with a 5-speed manual (there is no alternative for the transmission), is able to accelerate to 100 km / h in 9.2 seconds. As a reminder, the 2.5i model overcomes the indicated mark in 9.8-10.9 seconds, and the Outback 3.0R - in 8.5 seconds. In terms of fuel consumption, the diesel station wagon is only 5.8 l / 100 km on the combined cycle (7.1 liters in the city and 5.1 liters on the highway). For gasoline ones, on average, from 8.6 to 9.8 l / 100 km.

Subaru Outback is equipped with permanent all-wheel drive - AWD system. The torque is evenly distributed to all four wheels, but in the event of grip deterioration, the electronics redistribute the torque. The suspension of the car is completely independent: MacPherson strut at the front and a multi-link at the rear. In general, in the third generation, the chassis is characterized by a more rigid setting, the car keeps the track perfectly, however, it is noted that on models that are not equipped with a rear self-leveling suspension, a tendency to swing is sometimes manifested. The outer dimensions of the Outback station wagon are quite impressive: the length is approaching 4.8 meters. Width 1770 mm, height 1565 mm. The wheelbase is 2670 mm. The ground clearance is 200 mm. The maximum carrying capacity of the vehicle is 555 kg. Moreover, the maximum roof load should not exceed 100 kg. In the European specification, the standard trunk volume is indicated in the value of 459 liters, the maximum volume is 1628 liters. The folded backs of the seats (the cushion folds forward and the back is put in its place) free up space 1967 mm long, the width of the luggage opening is 1016 mm.

From the safety systems, the restyled version of the Subaru Outback (BP) for the European market included six airbags (two frontal for the driver and passenger, two front side in the backrests and full-size curtain airbags) as standard equipment for the European market. Additionally, an electronic stabilization system SVDC (Subaru Vehicle Dynamic Control) was installed, which tracks the course of the car, preventing it from falling off the selected trajectory in difficult conditions.

The Subaru Outback station wagon is able to deliver pleasure both from its comfort and from driving, whether it is high-speed traffic on the highway or off asphalt roads, including moderate off-road. The owners call the disadvantages more expensive maintenance and operation against the background of classmates, as well as long overhangs, high fuel consumption. It is also worth noting that European versions of the Outback tend to have simpler equipment than machines for the Japanese market.
