The 2013 Subaru Outback received cosmetic changes with a new grille and front bumper, modified headlamps, including larger fog lights. The car received a new four-cylinder engine with more power and improved fuel efficiency, for the same, the continuously variable transmission (CVT) has been upgraded. The general list of changes also includes an increase in body rigidity, steering and suspension readjustments to improve handling, reduce body roll. Safety has been improved with the introduction of a collision avoidance system.

In its most powerful version, the Outback 3.6R is powered by the former 3.6-liter, horizontally-boxer six-cylinder engine producing 256 hp. combined with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Fuel consumption figures remain the same - according to the EPA, efficiency is estimated at 18/25 gallons per mile (highway / city), which corresponds to 9.4-13.1 l / 100 km. In 2.5i versions, the Outback is equipped with an upgraded 2.5-liter four with 173 hp. (229 Nm). The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or Subaru's continuously variable CVT transmission, which offers manual operation with paddle shifters. Fuel consumption has decreased - for example, for the 2.5i CVT model to 24/30 MPG or 7.8-9.8 l / 100 km (highway / city), for comparison, the previous value in the same modification was 8.1- 10.7 l / 100 km.

The Subaru Outback's chassis includes MacPherson struts front independent suspension, double wishbone independent rear suspension. The parking brake is electronic, and the main brakes are ventilated disc at the front and disc at the rear (in the version with a 3.6 liter engine, the rear brakes are also ventilated). To match the engine and transmission, the Outback offers three AWD four-wheel drive systems. On 2.5 MT models, a viscous-coupling limited slip center differential is used. With a variator - a system of "electronic" all-wheel drive, where the transmission of torque is controlled by the electronics. The Outback 3.6 AT incorporates the most advanced AWD technology with a free asymmetrical differential that divides torque 45:55 in favor of the rear wheels. Subaru Outback dimensions: length 4780 mm, width 1820 mm, height 1669 mm. With a base of 2745 mm, the minimum turning radius is 5.5 m. The ground clearance is 221 mm. The Outback has a payload capacity of 510 kg and luggage capacity ranges from 971 to 2019 liters.

All Outbacks are equipped with ABS with electronic brake force distribution, Brake Assist. The electronic parking brake engages the Hill Holder function, automatically holding the vehicle on slopes greater than 5%. Also standard on all models is Dynamic Dynamic Control (VDC), which controls stability and traction. The new optional EyeSight stereo camera system is capable of lane departure warning, active cruise control, automatic emergency braking and front collision warning. The car is distinguished by impeccable passive safety performance - Outback received high results in crash tests.

The main features of the Subaru Outback are branded boxer engines and the presence of permanent all-wheel drive, providing confidence on roads with any surface and in difficult road conditions. The all-new suspension has improved handling characteristics. In the American market, the car was positioned as a good alternative to more expensive and large SUVs. The disadvantages of the car are expensive maintenance, the quality of the paintwork and interior trim materials has changed not for the better, the owners also have complaints about noise insulation.
In 2012, the updated Outback lineup was presented. Restyling of this station wagon / crossover (this is what the Outback became in the fourth generation) brought some changes to its appearance: new headlights, a radiator grill, a bumper, and larger fog lights. According to the developers, the model began to look sportier and is an example of a versatile family car. There are also innovations in the interior, including new dark wood trim in the top trim levels. Changes also affected the suspension, improved sound insulation. "Younger" Outbacks 2013 model year received a new 2.5-liter horizontally-opposed 4-cylinder DOHC unit of the FB25 series (173 hp). from.). Under the hood of the top model is a 3.6-liter 6-cylinder "boxer" (260 hp).
Subaru Outback 2013 has new trim materials, new instrument cluster illumination in expensive trim levels. Repositioned SI-DRIVE switch and electric parking brake button. In the center of the "tidy" there is a 3.5-inch color liquid crystal multi-information display (standard for all models except the basic "2.5i") - it displays data from the on-board computer, information from the EyeSight system, etc. The basic configuration of Outback 2.5i includes: 17 '' alloy wheels, xenon headlights, foglights, roof rails and a rear spoiler, central locking (remote control), power windows, automatic air conditioning, leather steering wheel. The top-of-the-line version includes perforated leather trim, dual-zone climate control, voice-activated navigation, 10-way driver's seat adjustment, power sunroof, heated front seats, outside mirrors, and wiper defroster. After the upgrade, the base Outback 2.5i received the new FB25 boxer engine. The redesigned Lineartronic CVT is smaller and lighter. The unit is equipped with an idle stop system. As a result, the indicators of the "2015 fuel efficiency standard" were achieved. With the second-generation EyeSight on board, the start-stop function is even more effective due to more "coordinated control", as the manufacturer notes. Top versions are equipped with a 3.6-liter engine. This engine differs not only in its powerful torque from the very bottom, but also in economical consumption when using regular gasoline. Mileage per liter of fuel - up to 9.2 kilometers. The economy indicator of the basic version is up to 13.6 km / l. Both engines are considered to be quite reliable. But experts recommend that you be more careful about the state of the cooling system (one of the diseases is the tendency to overheat) and not save on lubrication. Complaints about increased oil consumption are often heard; owners of the FB engine have faced this problem since its inception in 2011.

The Subaru Outback's chassis includes MacPherson-type front independent suspension, double wishbone independent rear suspension. The parking brake is electronic, and the main brakes are ventilated disc at the front and disc at the rear (in the version with a 3.6 liter engine, the rear brakes are also ventilated). The unique combination of AWD and boxer engines with a low center of gravity provides excellent weight balance and sporty driving. Subaru Outback dimensions: length 4790 mm, width 1820 mm, height 1605 mm. With a base of 2745 mm, the minimum turning radius is 5.5 m. The ground clearance is 200 mm. The Outback has a very spacious luggage compartment that can be used for a wide variety of tasks. Its volume is 526 liters. With the rear seats folded down - 1,726 liters. With the Subaru Outback upgrade, the EyeSight system has been enhanced to combine adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance. The new data processing algorithm has improved the recognition of images from the stereo camera, and the system's response time to changes in the traffic situation has been reduced. The basic equipment includes ABS, EBD, Brake Assist systems, Hill Holder system for holding at the start on the rise, dynamics control system (VDC), a full set of airbags (front, side, curtains). Outback scored well in crash tests.

As before, the Outback in its fourth incarnation is a vehicle with the looks and capabilities of an SUV. And in general it gives the impression of a powerful and uncompromising car. At the same time, in the opinion of many connoisseurs of the updated model, the exterior has become "cleaner and more functional", and the interior has become more comfortable. The Outback for the domestic market is well equipped and has many options not available in other markets. The disadvantages of the car are expensive maintenance, the quality of the paintwork and interior trim materials has changed not for the better, the owners also have complaints about noise insulation.
