8 generation, restyling
The Honda Civic hatchback in this body belongs to the eighth generation of the model, the production of which began in Japan back in 2005. At the same time, Honda for the first time refused to sell hatchbacks in most markets: in Japan, for example, Civic is now offered only with a sedan body. According to Honda management, it is sedans that are the most promising body type in the 21st century. But 5-door hatchbacks are also being delivered to Russia - apparently, at Honda, Russians are among those Europeans who consider golf-class cars with a separate trunk exotic. However, the hatchback, specially designed for Europe, is fundamentally different from the sedan, and not just the bodywork. The car has a different suspension, a more aggressive appearance, designed by designer Toshiyuki Okumoto. In the Russian market, the car was presented in the following configurations: Sport (with a manual or automatic transmission), Executive (“automatic”) and the top version of Executive Glass Roof, which is also equipped with an automatic transmission. Even in the basic version, the hatchback offers a serious level of equipment: headlight washers, fog lights, rain and light sensors, cruise control, power windows and mirrors (the latter with heating), there are heated front seats, climate control, an on-board computer, immobilizer, CD -player with 6 speakers, central locking with remote control. In the top-end Glass Roof package, the buyer is offered a leather interior, a leather steering wheel and gear knob, xenon headlights, a self-dimming rearview mirror, parking sensors, dual-zone climate control. And, of course, as the name implies, the panoramic roof.

The 1.8-liter engine has a capacity of 140 hp. The i-VTEC system (continuously variable valve timing on DOHC VTEC engines) allows you to increase torque at low and medium revs and at the same time provides an additional reduction in fuel consumption, giving Honda Civic excellent performance indicators that make the engines of this series comparable to conventional engines smaller volumes. So, a hatchback with a mechanical transmission spends in the combined cycle only 6.4 liters per 100 km, and with an “automatic” - a little more than 7 liters. At the same time, the car is able to accelerate to 100 km / h in 8.9 seconds, and the maximum speed is 205 km / h. In addition, there are also European versions with a 1.4 liter engine and an “intelligent” i-DSI dual sequential ignition system or a 100-horsepower 1.4 i-VTEC on post-styling models.

One of the major differences between the hatchback and the sedan and, in any case, revolutionary for the Civic is the presence of a semi-dependent rear suspension with a torsion beam (the sedan has a multi-link). This decision was dictated by the ability to free up additional space for the luggage compartment, because the hatchback, although not by much, is inferior in length to the sedan. At the same time, Honda engineers did everything in order to maintain the previous handling parameters. In general, the work was done not in vain. The dimensions of the trunk are impressive. It has a volume of 415 liters, and a wide opening of the rear door makes loading much easier. If you lower the rear backs, you get a flat floor at the same level with the trunk. If you lift the lower part of the rear seats, then in addition to the trunk, you will get another platform for cargo, but already in the cabin - an object up to 160 centimeters high will fit freely in it.

The car is well prepared to prevent the consequences of an accident, and is also equipped with a wide range of active systems responsible for driving safety. The standard equipment includes six airbags, child seat mounts, three-point belts with pretensioners. The VSA stabilization system helps you control your vehicle while cornering, accelerating and maneuvering to avoid a collision. Brake system - with ABS with EBD (brake force distribution system), as well as an auxiliary braking system. Among other things, the car is equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system.

The Civic hatchback definitely arouses interest in its unusual appearance, swiftness of form, a sufficiently voluminous interior and looks advantageous not only as a family transport, but also as a car for business trips. The popularity was ensured by the models with a fairly wide assortment in the market, moreover diluted well with imported specimens from other countries, including with smaller engines, which creates an additional opportunity for choice.
The eighth generation Honda Civic was first introduced in Japan in September 2005. The creators called it nothing more than a "revolutionary machine", which is radically different from its predecessors. Civic uses a design concept known as the One motion flowing form. Attractive flowing lines give it a streamlined look with a powerful and swift underbody. The upper body has a streamlined and dynamic shape, which goes into the windshield with the base shifted forward. In order to match the interior of the car, a new concept was created - “dual-zone dashboard”. All dial gauges are located directly behind the steering wheel, within peripheral vision.
In the new generation of Honda Civic, the main bet was made on the sedan - for example, only he represents the lineup in his homeland in Japan. As for those sedans that were officially delivered to Russia, here are models with a 1.8-liter engine in three trim levels: Comfort (transmission - only mechanical), Elegance ("mechanics" or "automatic") and Executive (only automatic transmission) . The most inexpensive modification of the car already has air conditioning, electric power and heated mirrors, four power windows, heated front seats, an immobilizer and a full-size "reserve". The "top" version of the model is equipped with climate control, anti-theft alarm, alloy wheels, steering wheel audio system control, fog lights, and the gear lever and steering wheel are trimmed with leather.

The 4-door Civic for the Russian market is equipped with 1.8 i-VTEC engines, which were created using modern racing engine technologies. According to Honda, the 1.8-liter power unit develops the power of two-liter engines (for Civic it is 140 liters. sec.), while remaining economical, like 1.6-liter engines (the fuel consumption of the Civic in the combined cycle is 6.7 liters per 100 km). There are two transmissions to choose from: a 6-speed "mechanics" or a 5-speed automatic gearbox with shift paddles for independent speed selection. The maximum speed of the Honda Civic is 200 km / h, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in a car with a manual transmission takes 9.1 seconds, with automatic transmission - 10.6 seconds. Independent suspension Honda Civic for the Russian market, as well as machines for the domestic Japanese market, implies a rack-mount design (MacPherson type) at the front and double wishbone suspension at the rear. This is their difference from the European versions of the Civic hatchback, where a simpler torsion beam (semi-independent suspension) is used at the rear. Civic steering - with electric power, while the steering column is adjustable for tilt and reach. Ground clearance is quite acceptable for the city of 145 mm.

The passive safety of the Honda Civic in the “base” is ensured by the airbags for the driver and front passenger, as well as the side airbags and the Isofix child seat mount. The Elegance package also offers curtain airbags. Civic disc type front and rear brakes (ventilated front) provide excellent braking. Moreover, in all trim levels the car is equipped with an anti-lock braking system with brake force distribution, an emergency braking assistance system, as well as an anti-slip system.

The eighth generation Honda Civic sedan approached the level of a comfortable executive car - due to a more comfortable and spacious interior - while maintaining dynamic qualities. In the secondary market, this generation is widely represented, and it will not be difficult to find a car with minimal mileage and in excellent technical condition.
