The second generation Toyota Ipsum (ACM2 # Series bodywork) was launched in 2001. The size of the car body compared to the previous generation (SXM / CXM) has slightly increased. These changes allowed to expand the trunk and interior space of the cabin, the narrowness of which was the weak point of the first generation car. Particularly successfully, changes were made to the aisles between the seats and to the design of the chairs themselves. Ease of use was also inherited, thanks to the wide possibility of transformation. The second generation Toyota Ipsum surpasses the first in the simplicity of getting in and out of the car. The beauty of the proportions of the car was preserved, but the new body began to look more solid. The majestic design of this car does not remind in any way that it is intended largely for family use. Another difference from the previous generation is the availability of six-seat versions, in the cabin of which there is noticeably more free space, while two chairs of the central row provide a very comfortable fit and are equipped with armrests.
 The car in the most modest configuration “240e” of the 2001 model was supposed to have simple fabric upholstery, power accessories, a central lock with a remote key. Of the "frills" - only trim "wood" and front climate control. As options that could reach the basic version to the next, more interesting level, fog lights, a front spoiler, roof rails, a sunroof, alloy wheels, a monitor with navigation, dual climate control were offered. In the maximum equipment, in addition to all of the above, the buyer received xenon headlights, a rear spoiler on the roof, a DVD player, electric front seats, factory tinting, a monitor for passengers built into the ceiling, a camera, a rain sensor, an otitron instrument panel, cruise control, A chic, light-colored interior with faux suede (Alcantara) upholstery. The new car was presented under the “240 series” index, which indicated the presence of only one engine with a volume of 2.4 liters and significantly more power than the power unit of the first generation. This gasoline engine - a four-cylinder in-line DOHC model 2AZ-FE - is equipped with a variable valve timing mechanism VVT-I and has a power of 160 hp The design solutions used on the engines of this series are typical of the so-called “third wave” engines and make them more demanding in operation. In general, with this engine Ipsum has a fairly good margin of power and quietly digests the 92nd gasoline.

 The suspension of the new Ipsum has retained its previous type - in front of the MacPherson strut, in the rear is semi-independent, on a torsion beam design. The minimum turning radius is 5.5 meters, the same as the first generation, and relatively small for a car with a wheelbase, increased from 2735 to 2825 mm. Together with a reduced center of gravity and improved weight distribution, this provided the car with good stability and handling. And, of course, the previous comfort, energy consumption of the suspension and smoothness, which distinguish this family-class car for the better, have been preserved. Ipsum is equipped with an automatic 4-speed gearbox. Drive - front or full (ATC type - 4WD plug-in). Significantly increased safety and comfort. The second-generation Ipsum received rear disc brakes, initially the standard for all versions was the availability of systems such as ABS (anti-lock braking), EBD (electronic brake force distribution), Brake Assist (auxiliary braking system), and an anti-slip system was offered as an option. Having a body of increased strength, and in the equipment - front airbags (standard), which can be supplemented with side airbags, seat belts with tension limiters, child seat fasteners, etc. n., the car received very high results in crash tests.

 The second generation of Ipsum is an example of ideal evolutionary development. For flawless operation, some Ipsum components and assemblies (for example, an engine) may require closer attention than their predecessor, but this is a trend in all modern automotive industry.
